Nigeria’s climate ambition is becoming more concrete. With the release of Nigeria’s third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), the country has moved beyond a business-as-usual framing toward an economy-wide absolute emissions reduction pathway, linked more explicitly to its 2060 net-zero target. The updated NDC also sets clearer intermediate targets for 2030 and 2035, broadens sectoral coverage,and aligns the country’s emissions trajectory more closely with its longer-term decarbonization commitments.
That shift matters because the conversation is no longer only about ambition. It is increasingly about implementation. And as climate ambition becomes more detailed, the quality of the underlying emissions data becomes more consequential
