The project entailed a report that explored  the prospects for GCF financing to facilitate energy transition in high GHG emission low and middle-income countries LMICs) by accelerating the closure of coal-fired generation plants.

The report suggested and ranked each $ of GCF financing, 5 financial mechanisms that will reduce CO₂ emissions from coal-fired generation, recognising that early reduction has a more significant impact than later reductions.
